Ripple expands XRP Ledger tools for AI agents with Stripe-Tempo payments standard

Ripple has updated its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit to let AI agents pay for online services using XRP and RLUSD, integrating two payment-related standards backed by Stripe and Tempo.

XRPL AI Starter Kit v1.1 adds MPP and Open Wallet Standard

Version 1.1 of the XRPL AI Starter Kit introduces support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) and the Open Wallet Standard. The kit is built to handle both one-time payments and ongoing XRP payment sessions, with stablecoin support for sessions tied to a proposed ledger upgrade.

How MPP enables “pay as the agent works”

MPP is designed for machine-to-machine payments. An AI agent requests a service, receives a price, authorizes payment, and the service delivers the resource. Ripple’s beta software supports XRP payment sessions that can extend across multiple actions during a session.

Open Wallet Standard lets software transact without private keys

The Open Wallet Standard integration allows agents to request transactions without accessing private keys. It also includes safeguards such as spending limits and approved destinations to constrain where payments can go.

Ripple positions XRP and RLUSD as default options for builders

RippleX head of product Jazzi Cooper said the goal is to make XRP and RLUSD “first-class options wherever developers are building.” Ripple previously added support for x402 in June, and the new update adds MPP so developers can use either standard on the XRP Ledger.

Why the update matters for recurring machine payments

For services that charge small amounts repeatedly, payment sessions can reduce the need to put every transaction on-chain. Ripple’s announcement does not name customers using the new MPP integration commercially, and it provides no payment volume.
