OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Work for Investment Banking Ahead of Broader Financial Rollout

OpenAI has introduced a tailored ChatGPT Work experience for financial institutions, starting with investment banking and equity research. The company said the initial release is designed to help bankers build research, financial models, and client materials.

Built for Investment Banking and Equity Research

OpenAI said ChatGPT for Financial Services is initially focused on investment banking and equity research. The experience is intended to support workflows tied to research development and customized materials for clients.

Shaped by Morgan Stanley and Evercore Design Partnership

OpenAI developed the offering with a design partnership involving Morgan Stanley and Evercore. In a Thursday (Sept. 10) press release, OpenAI said teams’ biggest pain points were “reliable access to data and high-quality artifact creation,” and that partner feedback will inform post training, product improvements, and expansion to other financial services categories.

Financial Data, Customer Subscriptions, and GPT-6 Astra Reasoning

OpenAI said ChatGPT for Financial Services combines built-in financial data with the reasoning of GPT-6 Astra. It will incorporate newer models as they are released.

The experience includes datasets covering earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals, and private companies. It also provides access to the customer’s existing data subscriptions, more reliable connections to financial providers, and GPT-6 Astra capabilities for information retrieval, financial reasoning, and artifact generation.

OpenAI also said users can turn analysis into valuation models, research notes, and pitchbooks.

Expansion Plans and API Option for Developers

OpenAI said ChatGPT for Financial Services is one way it serves customers across the industry, and that a range of solutions will be needed for different finance use cases. The company also said financial services firms and developers can use its API to build specialized applications.

Why it matters

The rollout shows OpenAI targeting finance-specific workflows first, with features built around data access and the production of research artifacts like valuation models and pitchbooks. The Morgan Stanley and Evercore design partnership signals an early push to align model outputs with investment banking research and client deliverables.
