Meta launches Muse AI agent for mass-market automation
Meta introduced Muse, a personal AI agent aimed at broad consumer use, in a Tuesday blog post dated September 8, 2026. The agent is designed to let users delegate tasks through the Muse app or WhatsApp.
Built to feel like messaging
Meta says Muse is designed for simple use “out of the box,” with “no learning curve.” Users can communicate with the agent in the Muse app or via WhatsApp as if messaging another person, then specify what they want done.
How Muse runs and handles data
Muse is powered by Meta’s Muse Spark model and runs on a dedicated virtual machine called Muse Secure VM. Meta says the setup houses both the agent and the user’s data to support security.
Tasks include email, travel, and form work
Meta says Muse can handle actions such as sending an email and booking travel. It can also build personalized plans based on a user’s shared goals, and perform browser tasks like opening a browser, filling out forms, and negotiating on the user’s behalf.
For larger requests, Meta says the agent can keep working after the user closes the app and return when something changes or when it needs user approval to send an email or make a purchase.
Payments via Stripe checkout
Muse includes Link built by Stripe, which Meta says enables payments at checkout.
Rollout in the US, with expansion planned
Meta is rolling out Muse in the United States on iOS, Android, and muse.ai. The company plans to add Muse to AI glasses soon.
Why it matters
Muse is Meta’s push to move from chat-based assistants toward agents that execute real tasks for everyday users, with payments and approvals built into the workflow.
