Mastercard and Alchemy Partner on Agentic Payments Rolling Out This Week
Mastercard and Alchemy will roll out an agentic payment option this week that lets AI agents make everyday purchases using Mastercard credentials. The offering is powered by Alchemy’s AgentCard.
AgentCard credentials across Mastercard acceptance
Alchemy said the partnership gives developers identity, a wallet, and one-time-use Mastercard credentials through AgentCard. Alchemy described the goal as enabling AI agents to discover, compare, and buy on behalf of users anywhere Mastercard is accepted online.
AgentCard, introduced in March, is built to support agent purchases such as inference and APIs, DoorDash, Amazon, and Uber orders, marketing activities, and Polymarket trades.
Powered by Mastercard Agent Pay and Verifiable Intent
The new agentic payment option uses Mastercard Agent Pay and supports Mastercard Verifiable Intent. Verifiable Intent is designed to attach what the user approved, including the merchant and the amount, to the payment while keeping the user’s everyday card protected.
Mastercard launched Agent Pay in April 2025 as an AI-driven payment program intended to move agentic commerce from experimentation toward everyday use. In March, Mastercard added Verifiable Intent to Agent Pay, described as an open-source, standards-based framework for agentic commerce that links identity, instructions, and transaction outcomes into a tamper-resistant record.
Executives frame “when” and “how fast”
Mastercard Chief Product Officer Jorn Lambert said in a Wall Street Journal report: “We believe it’s not about if, it’s about when and how quickly.” Alchemy Co-Founder and CEO Nikil Viswanathan said the partnership helps developers bring agentic commerce into the mainstream with the security and reliability people expect from payments.
Mastercard Executive Vice President of Digital Commercialization Sherri Haymond said the program brings “trust, safeguards and consumer control” needed for agentic commerce to move into everyday use. Mastercard U.S. Co-President Chiro Aikat told PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster that about 132 million consumers are using AI and shopping is becoming part of that activity.
Earlier integrations and the Visa reference
Alchemy previously said it integrated AgentCard with Visa Intelligent Commerce in June, aiming to provide AI agents with an identity and payment stack for online purchases on a consumer’s behalf.
Why it matters
Agentic payments are shifting from pilots to infrastructure that can support routine transactions. Mastercard’s rollout, paired with Verifiable Intent, focuses on controlling what agents can authorize and how those approvals are recorded.
